I was writing about Evel Knievel Motorcycle Toys and I thought I better take a moment and really learn about Mr. Evel Knievel so I would understand the appeal of these toys.
Upon doing my research (gotta love Wikipedia!) I learned he had been a successful insurance agent. Fed up with that (who wouldn’t be? – no offense to insurance agents out there, just doesn’t seem like an exciting job!) he decided to put on a show of him on his motorcycle doing crazy things.
He had broken 433 bones, had numerous concussions, etc. etc. Ironically, it wasn’t his stunts that killed him – he had a liver transplant and ultimately died from diabetes.
Anyways, you’ve got to watch this video and tell me if you would try to do something like this:
I watched that video, it’s insane what he’s accomplished.
I don’t think 99.99% of people would even consider this, that’s what makes him so unique and a legend.

WOW! I wouldn’t jump over even one car let alone 20!
I LOVED Evel when I was a kid. thanks for the memories!!
I don’t suppose he would have changed much about his life, although in the end he ended up in quite a state. Having said that it obviously did,nt put his son off as he seems to be following in his fathers footsteps!
Yeah that’s a great video, I’ve seen it before but its always fun to watch. His son is just as good as he was, but the daredevil thing was more popular back in the 70′s and 80′s so I’m not sure know how he will do with it.
To answer your question: “no” I wouldn’t dare. But its cool to watch other people do stunts like these
Wow! I’ve never broken a bone. I can’t even imagine what life as Evil Kanievel would be like.

I guess maybe he knows that he will die soon so better to enjoy doing he like.

An insurance salesman? I had no idea. That sure was a big change.

Wouldn’t try that in my dreams. But its a great adrenalin rush even just watching great bike stunts like these.
Simply amazing. Can’t imagine ever trying anything like that.
Amazing its awesome video.
Evel was a great showman and a fantstic self publicist. When he came to the UK in 1975 to jump buses at Wembley Stadium he managed to stay on the front cover of the British motorcycle press for several weeks leading up to the jump. After the jump (he sadly crashed), he was in the national news for weeks afterwards too.
Great post, very informative. Have learned a lot from your site.
