I’ve decided that knowing a hurricane is coming and choosing to stay there instead of going somewhere safe and out of the hurricane’s path is a DUMB THING TO DO. Those newscasters that stand out there all for the sake of having a story did a pretty dumb thing too. How could risking your life for that be worthwhile?
Last night we got some of the “after-effects” of Hurricane Ike which prompted my beliefs about this…50-60 mph winds, lots of trees down, missed the Steelers game thanks to our power going out…It was kind of scary – people with trees fallen on their homes like shown below and we slept in our basement worried a tree would fall on ours. And we are no where near where the Hurricane hit!

So while I genuinely feel bad that these kind of storms destroy people’s homes and everything else, I can’t help but think these people are nuts for staying somewhere when it is a KNOWN FACT hurricanes are dangerous. It is sad to see so many people lose everything and even their lives for something that could be somewhat preventable.
Anyways, everybody…if you are lucky enough to know that a natural disaster or potentially dangerous weather conditions are coming your way, please don’t be dumb! Get to somewhere that is safe! Your life is more important than anything else! They send out weather advisory warnings for a very good reason!
pretty good advice. i guess some people tend to believe that things are somehow going to work out alright. especially if they’ve never truly felt the brunt of that kind of weather.
hopefully more people do decide to take the safer route when faced with this type of decision.

Something that really stands out with Ike is that there were hundreds of 911 calls from those who stayed in the area and realized it was a bad idea as their house was being washed away.

Well maybe it’s not so wise to choose to stay somewhere which might be safer, but we can’t be to harsh to some people. You know, some people know what’s the best to do when they face danger, while others not…I guess people are vary from each other. This’s my opion.

Yep, staying in a hurricane is dumb! I work in a federal disaster team and have responded to 6 hurricanes in the last 10 years. The last one, hurricane Ike certainly thinned the herd of some of the dumber humans. When they finally called 911, they were told to just put some kind of ankle tag on, so the search and rescue teams could later ID their bodies. Check out my evacuation packing list at: http://protectiontalk.com/2008/09/16/practical-packing-for-disaster-a-federal-responders-view/

although the financial could be the matter but I guess some must be playing with their luck and hoping that tree will not fall down on their house.

I am one of those people who lost everything to a storm (Katrina) and it is one of the worst feelings one can experience. And those people who don’t evacuate are not stupid (most of them atleast), but they may honestly think they’ll be safe because of past experiences.
totally agree kaiser’s message, thanx.
