One of my favorite movies is the Big Lebowski. It’s a movie about a guy (Respectfully named “The Dude” and played by Jeff Bridges) and his quest to get back his rug. Really though, his qualms about missing Area Rugs are the least of his problems. He’s got foreign people trying to kill him, his friends go causing all types of problems, there’s even a kidnapping involved. But, that rug really tied the room together and he wants it back!
Now, most people, if they had their rug stolen, would simply go online and start looking for Cheap Rugs and get a replacement rug. It’s relatively easy to find just about any kind of rug you’re looking for. In a way, you could say it is admirable how determined The Dude is to get back his rug.
It also goes to show that a good movie and story line can be based on just about any object. If a movie all about Rugs can be a blockbuster hit, it’s pretty safe to say you could write a great movie based on just about anything, like a couch, or a washing machine.
Have you seen the Big Lebowski? Did you think it was a good movie? Have you ever gone to any great lengths to get something back that was stolen from you? Do you agree that the right rug can really tie a room together?
I came to read this post because the punch line in the big Lebowski “That Rug Really Tied the Room Together” is so hilarious. I also like the part where the lady cuts her toe off, all for nothing. Am I insane

I love the movie “The Big Lebowski.” In college I had a copy of “Steal This Book,” (reprint – not that old) and my friends stole it from me. That book was passed through so many rooms for two years, lol.

I’ve spend weeks searching ebay after my mother’s ring was stolen. I’ve finaly gotten it back. But yeah I only put that much dedication into it because of the sentimental value. The ring wasn’t even worth that much.
I did a stint in a video rental store for extra cash on winter and The Big Lebowski was one of our all-time favs to pull off the shelf and watch on the slow nights.
Great movie and full of great quotes! Also i learned to enjoy white russian drinks thanks to the Dude!

Big Lebowski is one of my all time favorite movies. My brother and I constantly had little things we’d “borrow” from one another, then ransom back. I think I ended up with his Best of Lynyrd Skynyrd 2 CD set, and he still has my Eric Clapton collection, lol.

Hilarious! Everytime I think about that movie I laugh out loud. “What’s in the brief case Walter? My dirty undies Dude….the whites.” Everyone should see that movie at least 10 times.
i think that movie is a classic and will be around for a long time. I know that he just really believed in home appearances and when his home is devalued by the loss of his rug he gets upset. nice post.
I just found your site and love it. This post brings back fond memories of the incredulity of “The Big Lebowski” and the rug that tied it all together. This whole humor genre really appeals to me, hence my daily screw-ups passion.

I love rugs. But i have not seen the movie. I feel like they decorate the house holdings in a much better way. They give splendid looks. I would like to have a rug of paint color that is same as my wall painting. So that it looks extra ordinary.

The Big Lebowski is truly one of my favorite movies of all time. I like your point that any movie can revolve around an inanimate object, such as an area rug, and become a big hit. Not only was the “dude’s” area rug referenced to throughout the entire movie, but it also tied everything together quite nicely.
